NEW NET PROJECT UPDATE

PROJECT UPDATE | Our new IRS study evaluating the performance at community level of a novel active ingredient against pyrethroid resistant Anopheles gambiae in Southern Benin is going very well. Our field teams just completed a census of the study area(see photos). A baseline entomological survey is ongoing. For more information about this new project, please visit our website www.crec-lshtm.org

UPDATES| International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11th February)

As part of the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science yesterday, today we are glad to showcase some of the awesome women scientists (most of them entomologists) who are contributing to the science of #vectorcontrol at CREC/LSHTM. The Day was instituted by the United Nations to recognize the critical role women and girls play in science and technology; and the reality that science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  Visit our CREC/LSHTM Collaborative Research Program to learn more about their works.
Feel free to find more photos from media at www.crec-lshtm.org
Our MCs for the night Dr Renaud and Mr Mamoudou made the night a memorable one. Thanks. www.crec-lshtm.org

FACILITY UPDATES | CREC/LSHTM recently held a staff party to celebrate our progress over the past year and give awards to outstanding staff of the facility. The party was held at the Azalai Hotel, Cotonou, with special guests of honour such as the Director of CREC, Prof Martin Akogbeto and collaborators from Vector Link; Local Universities and the Ministry of Health.   Where resources are available, non-pyrethroid IRS can be deployed to complement standard pyrethroid LLINs with the aim of achieving improved vector control and managing insecticide resistance. Adding non-pyrethroid IRS to standard pyrethroid-only LLINs against a pyrethroid-resistant vector population which is susceptible to the IRS insecticide, can provide higher levels of vector mosquito control compared to the pyrethroid net alone or IRS alone.
