INTERNATIONAL UPDATES | World NTDs DAY, January 30

We are happy to hear of the launch of the "100% Committed" movement, to secure political and financial commitments in support of the "Kigali Declaration" on NTDs. Some NTDs like Dengue, chagas disease, river blindness, leishmaniasis, elephantiasis, are transmitted by insects which can be controlled by targeting the vectors with mosquito nets, insecticides for house spraying etc. Innovative vector control products would contribute substantially to achieving the objectives of this declaration. #endNTDs www.crec-lshtm.org Photo credit: www.worldntdday.org

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES | WHO recommends RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine for children at risk.

INTERNATIONAL UPDATES | WHO recommends RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine for children at risk.  "Using this vaccine on top of existing tools to prevent malaria could save tens of thousands of young lives each year." - WHO Director.  To effectively control malaria and increase our chances to eliminate the disease, vaccines must not be seen as the silver bullet but as an add-on to other effective interventions such as ITNs and IRS. Visit our blog at www.crec-lshtm.org for more of such important updates.
